Hi
Moving on.

.      41  The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment and condemn the people living today, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah. But look?something greater than Jonah is here!

42  The queen of the south will stand up and condemn the people living today, because she came from so far away to hear the wisdom of Solomon. But look! Something greater than Solomon is here

Here our Lord makes the point that those who repent and turn to the Lord will be raised up in the first resurrection and judge those who had rejected him.
He also tells us he is greater than Jonah in fact he is greater than all the prophets he is the son of God who sits on the right hand of God the Father.
He mentions the queen of the South who came to hear the wisdom of Soloman  indicating that those who seek God and his word will also receive a favourable resurrection..

But He answered and said unto them,
An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign;
and there shall no sign be given to it,
but the sign of the prophet Jonas:
For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly;
so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgement with this generation, and shall condemn it:
because they repented at the preaching of Jonas;
and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.'

(Mat 12:39-41)

Hello Dave,

This is not what is said in those verses: for nothing is said about resurrection other than the Lord's Own death, burial and resurrection.  It is not for you to impose your own understanding upon the word of God.

In Christ Jesus

Hi Chris
Thank you for your reply I was thinking of the words . will stand up at the judgment

The Judgement will occur after Christ's return and the resurrection then Nineveh will stand up of course you are right the word resurrection is not used but I believe it is implied.

Hi
Moving on

43  ?Whenever an unclean spirit goes out of a person, it wanders through waterless places looking for a place to rest, but finds none.

44  Then it says, ?I will go back to my home that I left.? When it arrives, it finds it empty, swept clean, and put in order.

45  Then it goes and brings with it seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they go in and settle there. And so the final condition of that person becomes worse than the first. That?s just what will happen to this evil generation

Does the waterless places mean lack of the water of the word of God the only purpose the evil spirits has is to destroy the believer so it returns to the believer that has been washed clean by the gospel.
Of course those our Lord is speaking to are Israelites who after accepting the gospel return to the temple teachings so we must be extra careful that we do not allow these evil spirits into us we must examine carefully our thoughts where they come from and it they comply with the teachings of the gospel of not we must reject them.

Hi
Next verses

.    8  He asked the man who told him, ?Who is my mother, and who are my brothers??

49  Then pointing with his hand at his disciples, he said, ?Here are my mother and my brothers,

50  because whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother

This is a hard saying to me it means our spiritual family is the most important our Lord is our Father the church his bride our mother and we are the children and if we are a part of this family our earthly families  and everyone else will benefit because we will Love them with a godly love and not only them but everyone one else including our enemies.
So let us spread God's love among our fellow man

Love and Peace

Hi
Moving on the next section is a Parable

The Parable of the Sower
Mat 13:1  That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat beside the sea.
Mat 13:2  And great crowds gathered about him, so that he got into a boat and sat down. And the whole crowd stood on the beach.
Mat 13:3  And he told them many things in parables, saying: ?A sower went out to sow.
Mat 13:4  And as he sowed, some seeds fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured them.
Mat 13:5  Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they did not have much soil, and immediately they sprang up, since they had no depth of soil,
Mat 13:6  but when the sun rose they were scorched. And since they had no root, they withered away.
Mat 13:7  Other seeds fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them.
Mat 13:8  Other seeds fell on good soil and produced grain, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.
Mat 13:9  He who has ears, let him hear.?

A little farther on our Lord explains the parable to his disciples and he dose a far better job than I could ever do so I will let him explain.

The Parable of the Sower Explained
Mat 13:18  ?Hear then the parable of the sower:
Mat 13:19  When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is what was sown along the path.
Mat 13:20  As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy,
Mat 13:21  yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while, and when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately he falls away.
Mat 13:22  As for what was sown among thorns, this is the one who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and it proves unfruitful.
Mat 13:23  As for what was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it. He indeed bears fruit and yields, in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty.?

There is much to think about in the above so much that is true of the world today and we would do well to read and contemplate these words.

Hi
Now we will take a look at the verses that come inbetween the sections above.

.    0  And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables?

11  He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.

12  For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath.

13  Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.

14  And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive

Our Lord of course is speaking to Israelites and I believe the priests and ruling classes who had closed their minds to the gospel they did not believe what our Lord was saying.
But to the disciples it was given to them to understand and this would would come via the Holy Spirit aer our Lords ascension into heaven then they would understand every thing our Lord had said.
To those who had even a little understanding more would be given but to those who refused to believe the knowledge they did have would be taken from them.
Our Lord spoke to them in parables it was  to fulfil the scriptures and we know all scripture must be fulfilled.

Hi
Next verse

.       15  For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them

Here our Lord is speaking to the Israelites they were blind and deaf to his message and all the prophets who had foretold his coming they preferred to listen to what the priests told them.
Is the same thing happening today with all the different denomination all spouting different things who are we to believe my answer is stick to the scriptures and we won't go far wrong so let's listen to God's word and not mans.

Hi
Moving on

.       16  But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.

17  For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them

Yes those who's eyes have been opened to the light and who's ears has been opened to the truth of the gospel are certainly blessed all the prophets of the OT  longed to see an to hear these things and did not but they did tell us they were coming and we would do well to listen to what they had to say.

Love and Peace
Dave
