Hi
Next

.     34  ?Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword

What is the sword our Lord speaks of here it is the sword that comes from his mouth.

.  *[[Rev 1:16]]* In his right hand he held seven stars, and out of his mouth came a sharp, two-edged sword. His face was like the sun when it shines with full force...

Heb 4:12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any double-edged sword, piercing until it divides soul and spirit, joints and marrow, as it judges the thoughts and purposes of the heart

The sword is the word of God the most potent weapon the world has ever seen it will penetrate to every corner of the world to kill through baptism and create children for God.
So let us wield the sword of God.

Hi
The next section is a bit difficult but we need to remember these instructions are what Christ gave to his apostles

Mat 10:35  For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.
Mat 10:36  And a person's enemies will be those of his own household.
Mat 10:37  Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

we also need to remember he was sending the apostels out to Israel who where steeped in the traditions of the old testament so they where going to meet a lot of resistance even members of there own families would be against them it was not an easy task Christ was  giving them.
But they were given the  Holy Spirit to support them there may be another side to this as well the Man against his father may mean The man being Christ and the Father being Israel we must remember Christ came out of Israel so he is the son of man the daughter is the church and the mother the priesthood.
Our Lords enemies would be the household of Israel  and next we are told nothing or nobody is to come before our Lord and if we Love him as we should the we love everyone  else as he commands us.

Hi
Moving on

.   38  The one who doesn?t take up his cross and follow me isn?t worthy of me.

39  The one who finds his life will lose it, and the one who loses his life because of me will find it

What does verse 38 mean it means we must be prepared to take everything the unbelievers can throw at us as our Lord Jesus did and not retaliate but accept it and Love them if we do retaliate let us use the sword provided the word of God.
The life we find of course is eternal life in Christ the life we lose is human life and if we should lose our human life for Christ we will gain our eternal life in him so we can not lose.

Hi
Next verse

.  40  ?The one who receives you receives me, and the one who receives me receives the one who sent me

So when someone accepts the word they also receive Jesus not only that they also receive the one who sent him which is God the Father.
The reason for this is that everything Jesus said and did comes from the Father

.  Joh 5:19 Jesus told them, ?Truly, I tell all of you emphatically, the Son can do nothing on his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing, What the Father does, the Son does likewise

So Christ is the obedient son who follows the Fathers instructions to the letter.

Hi
Final instructions to the twelve before Jesus sends them out.

.  41  The one who receives a prophet as a prophet will receive a prophet?s reward, and the one who receives a righteous person as a righteous person will receive a righteous person?s reward.

42  I tell all of you with certainty, whoever gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is a disciple will never lose his reward

Here we see that those who receive someone sent by God will receive there reward and I think it means receiving their message as well and their messages have been written down for us is even in this day and age we can know what God's message is.

A disciple is one who follows Christ in a way we are all disciples of Christ so those who show us kindness and understanding will receive their reward and likewise we should show love and kindness to all those of different denominations we are all brothers and sisters in Christ let us pray for the uniting of the body of Christ as it is meant to be.

Hi
Moving on

.   4  Jesus answered them, ?Go and tell John what you hear and observe:

5  the blind see, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the destitute hear the good news.

6  How blessed is anyone who is not offended by me

We need to take notice of these words of Christ because our Lord tells us the truth and these words were written down by his apostles as a witness to everything he said and did only the son of God could do these miracles.
The ones who where offended by him where the priests and ruling classes they did not believe who he was.

Hi
Next

Mat 11:7  As they went away, Jesus began to speak to the crowds concerning John: ?What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind?
Mat 11:8  What then did you go out to see? A man dressed in soft clothing? Behold, those who wear soft clothing are in kings' houses.
Mat 11:9  What then did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.
Mat 11:10  This is he of whom it is written, ??Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you.?

Here our Lord tells us about John the Baptist How great a prophet he was and how his ministry had been foretold well in advance

Mal_3:1  ?Behold, I send my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me. And the Lord whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple; and the messenger of the covenant in whom you delight, behold, he is coming, says the LORD of hosts.

It's wonderful to think that these things were said of John well in advance it's wonderful how God always tells us of things that he will do before the happen and John is a good example who else but God can know the future he is the one who has created it.
then we have the words of John who confirms who Jesus is.

Joh 1:29  The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, ?Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!

Hi
More wise words from our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ

. 11  I tell all of you with certainty, among those born of women no one has appeared who is greater than John the Baptist. Yet even the least important person in the kingdom from heaven is greater than he

John the Baptist is the greatest born of the flesh but those who are in heaven are greater than him and we who are in Christ will one day be in heaven with our Lord Jesus and John will also be there.
So let us look forward to that day knowing all the promises of God will be realised in Christ when we are united with him at his coming and all the heavenly hosts.

Love and Peace
Dave
