The words of Jesus
« on: August 03, 2019, 05:15:53 PM »
Hi
I was thinking we discus all sorts of things from scripture but we very rarely discus what our Lord had to say so I thought it may be of great interest to look at what he had to say if anyone would like to join in please do if you have a favourite saying of our Lord please post it and what it means to you.

so lets begin with his first words.

?Let it be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.?

Our Lord said these words at his baptism by John the Baptist what dose   to fulfill all righteousness. I mean why was it necessary for him to be baptised  he was sinless he did not need to die to sin and be born again as we do.
It was the right thing to do why was it  right was it because he had to follow the same path as Israel when the new generation came out of the wilderness they were baptised in the Jorden Christ Came out of the wilderness and was also Baptised in the Jorden.

I will leave it there for now looking forward to your interesting replies.

Love and Peace
Dave

Hi
Moving on these are the words of our Lord when he was tempted in the wilderness.

?It is written, ??Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.??

The devil had told him to turn the stones to bread and this is our Lords reply of course we need to eat bread to live in this life but our Lord is the bread from heaven this bread will give us eternal life we should eat of every day and allow it to feed our soul and not be tempted by the devil he is a crafty serpent who will do everything in his power to snatch it from our mouths.

and as that wonderful old hymn puts it

Bread of heaven Bread of heaven feed me till I want no more.

Love and Peace

Hi
The next words of our Lord are spoken when the Devil tells our Lord to throw himself down from the top of the temple our Lords reply was.

Mat 4:7  Jesus said to him, ?Again it is written, ?You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.??

we should not test God but we should trust him implicitly all the promises he has made us will come to pass if we put him to the test it means we lack faith in him so let us have faith and Love him for all his wonderful promises.

Love and Peace

Hi
here we have the devil offering Christ all the kingdoms of the world and there glory and riches but Christ refuses and says.

Mat 4:10  Then Jesus said to him, ?Be gone, Satan! For it is written, ??You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.??

and this should be our answer when we are tempted there is so much temptation in the world today it is everywhere you look much of it takes up all our time so we have no time for God.
The devil is still a crafty old serpent and as he tempted Eve so he temps us in so many ways so lets be on our guard and follow Christs example and say   be gone satan and turn and follow Christ.

Love and Peace

Hi
Moving on I think it a good idea to read Mat 4:11-16 it shows the accuracy of the prophecies of the OT how wonderful is God's word.

Our Lord said when he began to preach

.  17  From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand

The gospel in a nutshell what he meant of course is access to heaven would soon be granted through what he was to go through even his crucifixion death and resurrection he lived all his earthly life with this hanging over his head.
How great was his Love for the Father to do his will and his great Love for us sinners to pay the penalty for our sins.
Thank you Lord and let us follow his command and repent.

Love and Peace
Dave

Hi
The next words of our Lord were when he called Simon and Andrew who were fishing

Mat 4:19  And he said to them, ?Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.?

Here Christ chooses his first disciples who would later become his apostles a disciple is one who follows an apostle is one who is sent this also reminds us of what Jesus said a little later.

Mat 22:14  For many are called, but few are chosen.

I believe there is a difference between those who are called and those who are chosen

we would do well to read the whole parable that the above text comes from Mat 22:2-14 if anyone has any comments please feel free to ask.

Hi
Gone very quiet on here is everyone on holiday ?

Here we come to the beatitudes the sermon on the mount I will take them one at a time if anyone would like to comment please do.

Mat 5:3  ?Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Its wonderful to know that even a small amount of the Spirit will give us access to heaven so don't be disappointed when you don't feel like all the great Christians of the past or present we are all part of the body of Christ we all have a part to play bit like our own bodies every part is important so thank God for what you have not for what you don't have.
we are all blessed with the Spirit of God as he see's fit so let us thank him as we wait for the return of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Love and Peace

Hi
Moving on.

Mat 5:4  ?Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

What a wonderful blessing this is there is so much misery in the world to day so many suffering and much of it unnecessary  God has provided enough for everyone if it was shared out evenly but  those who don't have enough and mourn have this promise from the lips of our Lord they will be comforted.
This will happen at the coming of our Lord when he puts down all rule and sits as King of Kings so those who are suffering take comfort in promises and let us pray his coming will be soon.

Love and Peace
Dave
