1 John 2:15-17

To not love the things of the world.
What does it mean the love of the Father is not in them?

Context 99 times out of a hundred gives an answer.

1John2:2 My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father?Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. 2 He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.
Love and Hatred for Fellow Believers

3 We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. 4 Whoever says, ?I know him,? but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. 5 But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him: 6 Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.

What is the main drive in your life?
How does ones life compare to Jesus?

That is a tough comparison, who can say they live like Jesus.

But do we seek to honour God, or are we more interested in a new carpet, new mobile, a boy/girl friend?

To answer your question. If the love of God is not in someone they are not a Christian.

HI @Beatrix

God say's through scripture  "for God loved the world so much that He gave His only begotten Son"...

Although God loves all people - He does not love what gets in between Him and people... [world here is "people"]

So when He says "Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them"

The "world here is - "greed, hatred, envy, love of money, empire building, malice, deceit, - it's the longing and loving of anything - that is not of God "

Hence satan said  to Jesus "I will give you the whole world if you bow down and worship me"

As in Matthew 4:9 this is the power of and control of [a false vision of]

You may know the song "He has the whole world in His Hands...."....

However God does not hold onto/ cling to / like / greed - envy - hatred - power - or love of anything that takes people [the world- as in  in John 3:16 ] away from Him...

So  basically "if you love anything that is not of God/ persue / long for /  - then the Love of God is not in you...

How can Jesus be in you if you seek what is not in Him ?

Hi Beatrix
Thank you for the question what it mean is you can not serve two masters you have to choose either God and everything he has promised.
Or satan and all he offers you in this world but nothing after but God offers us eternal life in paradise.

Love and Peace
Dave
