Hi Deborah & John
Thank you for your replies some very good points made a blessing to those who read them talking about reading I believe you are right an easer English may be far better for those who follow us on these threads so I have downloaded one called BBE to my e-sword let me know what you think.

BBE is "the Bible in basic English". Apparently it uses a vocabulary of just 1000 words, and it's aimed at people who don't understand much English.
So it will be very easy to understand, but sometimes it will use several words where one would be enough - as in I John 3:15, where it says "taker of life" instead of "murderer".

Hi Deborah & John

Jn 3:13  Do not be surprised, my brothers, if the world has no love for you.
1Jn 3:14  We are conscious that we have come out of death into life because of our love for the brothers. He who has no love is still in death.
1Jn 3:15  Anyone who has hate for his brother is a taker of life, and you may be certain that no taker of life has eternal life in him.

V 13 I think we can all relate to this it seams as soon as you say you are a believer people tend to treat you differently some can be quite abusive but we must not raise to the bait and start arguing with them and being abusive if we do we become like them we must curb our temper and if possible reason with them quietly,

V 14 Because we know we have eternal life if we Love our brothers and sisters and those who abuse us let Gods Love shine fourth in us who believe if we suffer in this life we know we have eternity with God to come.

V 15 we must be extra careful that we do not allow hatred to overcome us if we hate our brother and sisters it is tantamount to murder so we must be of what we say and do especially to those of different denominations and points of view let Love be the cement that holds all together.

Love and Peace
Dave

V13-15

The world hates us for the same reason that Cain hated Abel - and we shouldn't be surprised by that. Unbelievers hate; believers love. Love and life go together just as hatred and death go together. As Jesus pointed out, hatred and murder are on the same spectrum (Matthew 5:21,22).

Does the 'world' hate you or me?
Fopr most of us we are that odd religous crank, the one it fun to wind up or argue with.

Hatred rarely applies to us, unless we stick our head up and make Christian principals known and someone objects.

Jesus said 'If you Love me you will obey my commands?'
As Dave likes to tell us, that command is to Love others.  Do we really love as radicly as Jesus loves?

Is that love seen in our lifes?  Does the quality of our love shame anmd embarase our neighbours?

Hi Deborah & John
Thank you for your replies Lots to think about yes Love is a vast subject Gods love is beyond our comprehension but if we are part of the body of Christ let us allow his Love to shine through.

Have managed to get the ESV on my E-Sword so will use that let me know what you think.

1Jn 3:16  By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.
1Jn 3:17  But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him?
1Jn 3:18  Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.

V 16  So when we come to know the Lord and what he has done we know what Love is he loved us so much that he laid down his life for us even more he laid down his life for all sinners everywhere and we are asked to do the same for our brothers who are our brothers is it only those who are in Christ or those outside as well.
V 17 There are so many in the world in need at this time who are not Christians and who need all the help they can get I'm sure John did not just mean our brothers in Christ but even them who do not belong to Christ The command love your enemies comes to mind.
V 18 Here we are encouraged to love not just in what we say but in actions and in truth let our actions show our Love for our fellow Man.

Love and Peace

v16-18

Murder is the ultimate expression of hatred; but self-sacrifice is the ultimate expression of love. This is exemplified by Jesus. And it should also be characteristic of our own lives. Laying down one's life is an extreme endpoint that is rare in everyday life; but the attitude underlying it can be cultivated in a myriad of smaller loving words and acts.
Real love is more than just an inner feeling, or even good words; it expresses itself in practical action. If we are clinging tightly to our money, time and possessions and refusing to share them with other people, then we evidently don't have much understanding of God's love.

Hi Deborah & John
Thank you for your replies John said.

Quote

If the love we are talking about is in us then it will be seen and I believe in many cases it will disarm aggression because it is totally unexpected.

1Jn 3:19  By this we shall know that we are of the truth and reassure our heart before him;
1Jn 3:20  for whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and he knows everything.
1Jn 3:21  Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God;

V19 By following St Johns excelent advise and doing what he has said we can be confident that we are of the truth and we can be confident that our heart is in good shape befor God never forgeting that God looks at the heart let us be sure we have a loveing Heart.
V20 there will be times when our hearts will not be good before God we all fall down but God is greater than us and he will forgive us if we repent he will wipe the slate clean with the blood of his dear Son.
V21 And if our heart dose not condemn us and keep it full with love for our fellow man we can be absolutly sure that we are in Christ and he in us and we know this is true.
for we know that Love is the only weopon that can defeat evil.

Love and Peace
Dave

v19,20

Guilt and shame keep us away from God (and often from other Christians as well). But as Adam and Eve discovered, God knew what they had done and they couldn't hide it from Him!
God's complete knowledge of us can be scary - but it should also be comforting. Because, despite knowing the worst there is to know about us, He still loves us!

v21 is the first half of a sentence that ends in verse 22 - it doesn't make sense on its own.
"My sheep listen to My voice; I know them, and they follow Me." (John 10:27)
