Hi Deborah
Thank you for your reply I will think on these things don't want to go of on a tangent.
Of course the Law was all about crime and punishment.

Amos 9:5,6

(5) The Lord, the LORD Almighty -
he touches the earth and it melts,
and all who live in it mourn;
the whole land rises like the Nile,
then sinks like the river of Egypt;

(6) he builds his lofty palace in the heavens
and sets its foundation on the earth;
he calls for the waters of the sea
and pours them out over the face of the land -
the LORD is his name.

If we really grasped how awesome our God is, our attitude towards Him would probably be different - and Israel would not have treated Him with such contempt.
He has complete power over His creation. What He has made, He can destroy; and even the mighty sea does His bidding.
"My sheep listen to My voice; I know them, and they follow Me." (John 10:27)

Hi Deborah
Thank you for your post yes it is hard to put  into words how magnificent our God is the glory of his creation leaves us speechless.
And he is still working to bring about the things he has promised us all we need to do is trust him.
This is were Israel failed they turned to other gods who are not gods At all but figments  of their imagination.

Amos 9:7

(7) "Are not you Israelites
the same to me as the Cushites?" declares the LORD.
"Did I not bring Israel up from Egypt,
the Philistines from Caphtor
and the Arameans from Kir?"

Israel made much of her 'special relationship' with God. But she was not as special as she thought. In fact, all nations have a history of divine intervention (whether they realise it or not) (Acts 17:26).

Hi Deborah
Thank you for your post what this teaches us is God's in charge he raises up nation's and pulls them down all to further his plan.
All through the history of man kind  God has been directing things to further his purpose.
I've just been looking at the book of Daniel and his prophecies of the rise and fall of nations must shows God is working in the affairs of man was all this so Christ would have a temple to come to.

Amos 9:8-10

(8 ) "Surely the eyes of the Sovereign LORD
are on the sinful kingdom.
I will destroy it
from the face of the earth.
Yet I will not totally destroy
the descendants of Jacob," declares the LORD.

(9) "For I will give the command,
and I will shake the people of Israel
among all the nations
as grain is shaken in a sieve,
and not a pebble will reach the ground.

(10) All the sinners among my people
will die by the sword,
all those who say,
'Disaster will not overtake or meet us.'"

God's intention now was to destroy Israel - but not completely. His judgement would be for purification, not for total destruction to cure them once and for all of their complacent indifference to sin

Hi Deborah
Thank you for your post my thoughts go to AD 70 and the fall of Jerusalem to the Romans after this Israel were scattered throughout the country's of the world.
Is the sword that will destroy the sinners the sword of our Lords mouth the word of God does it mean that Israel will accept Jesus as their messiah and all Israel will be saved.Dave

Amos 9:11,12

(11) "In that day
I will restore David's fallen shelter -
I will repair its broken walls
and restore its ruins -
and will rebuild it as it used to be,
(12) so that they may possess the remnant of Edom
and all the nations that bear my name,"
declares the LORD, who will do these things.

At long last... after all the doom and gloom, some good news. God still has a future plan for His people, and for David's descendants in particular! The remnants of the divided kingdom, though all but destroyed, will be reunited and restored, to make a new kingdom. This new kingdom will encompass not just Israel alone, but people from all nations - even those who were previously God?s enemies.
The early Church understood from this prophecy that Jews and Gentiles alike will bear God's name - so the Gentiles are not slaves or second-class citizens but full members of His family (Acts 15:14,15).
