Hi Frances
Thank you for your post yes I also remember the 50s I also remember we had very little to throw away don't remember any plastic bottles only glass and you could get money back on them so if you did find one in the street you picked it up and returned it to the shop and bought a gobstopper.
We also had road sweepers with brush and shovel who went around sweeping the gutters and picking up the rubbish most of the streets around by me have not been swept for years there are all sorts growing out of them the counsel say they have no money but they seam to have enough for a pay rise.

Not sure if any of this has any bearing on global warming which is topic for this thread it seams what we let out into the atmosphere is the main problem but by the time we solve that problem it will be to late and like you say there is to much money to be made in what we are doing for anyone to want to change anything.

Love and Peace
Dave

The west is always being condemned for destroying the planet, but whatever we think, supposed facts must always be put in a wider context.
One of the latest bandwagon fads is the ballyhoo about plastic straws and how the world is on the edge of disaster if we don't quickly do something.-

But where did this all start?

It all started with a 9 year old boy's guess of 500 million straws per day used in America. (That would mean about 1.5 straws per every single person in America every day throughout the year!)
Quote
Dubious statistics can keep thriving in our policy debates long after they?ve been debunked. Take the oft-cited fact that Americans use 500 million straws a day.
The source for this number is an unconfirmed 2011 phone survey of three straw manufacturers conducted by 9-year-old Milo Cress. That?s a pretty shaky foundation for an argument, but that hasn?t stopped media outlets, activist organizations, and government officials from using the figure to justify restrictions on the use of plastic straws.[/i][/color]http://thecrux.com/the-fake-news-saga-continues-media-legislators-and-activists-stick-by-straw-stats-produced-by-9-year-old/

https://eu.usatoday.com/story/news/2018/07/18/anti-straw-movement-based-unverified-statistic-500-million-day/750563002/
The environmentalists jumped on it and despite the fact it's a baseless statistic, its too good to just let go and walk away from the opportunity to make ordinary people feel guilty and create new earth worship laws.
And when the USA sneezes, the UK catches a cold, and here we are chasing wicked planet destroyers in Britain now.-
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-43817287
"Ministers pointed to one estimate that 8.5bn plastic straws were thrown away in the UK every year."
Again, another figure no doubt plucked from the sky.
But take care, the plastic straw militia are looking for people like you Dave.

Disturb us Lord, when we are too pleased with ourselves. When our dreams have come true because we dreamed too little. When we arrived safely because we sailed too close to the shore. Disturb us Lord, to dare more boldly. To venture on wider seas. Where storms will show your mastery; Where, losing sight of land, we shall find the stars. We ask you to push back the horizons of our hopes; And to push into the future, in strength, courage, hope and love.                     (SIR FRANCIS DRAKE 1577)

Again, polluted rivers and seas, all caused by the wicked west and if only we would stop buying plastic bags, the sea would be crystal clear.
Not!

Environmentalists claim that Western coal fired power stations are destroying the world's atmosphere.
According to Wikipedia, the UK only has 7 such power stations left.

But China is going crazy.

...........Chinese corporations are building or planning to build more than 700 new coal plants at home and around the world, some in countries that today burn little or no coal, according to tallies compiled by Urgewald, an environmental group based in Berlin. Many of the plants are in China, but by capacity, roughly a fifth of these new coal power stations are in other countries.
Over all, 1,600 coal plants are planned or under construction in 62 countries, according to Urgewald?s tally, which uses data from the Global Coal Plant Tracker portal. The new plants would expand the world?s coal-fired power capacity by 43 percent.

https://unearthed.greenpeace.org/2016/07/13/china-keeps-building-coal-plants-despite-new-overcapacity-policy/

Until nations like China, India, South America, Africa etc. decide to do something about it, its complete hypocrisy of environmentalists condemning Britain for our current standards.

Each volcano eruption puts many hundred times the entire worldly polution that man can emit. If we cap the volcanos we need no worry about polution being a problem for a few thousand years. Good luck!

Hehe!
Additionally, there have been monster surface and underground ground fires raging for hundreds or even thousands of years in various coal fields around the world

The idea that man can save the world from CO2 etc by banning the use of coal in UK power stations, or banning diesel engines etc. is just ignorant idiocy.
Only those who live in a bubble of political correctness fall for such silliness.

No sensible person objects to local clean air or water, but before we think of saving the world, we need to plug those volcanoes and douse the coal field fires.

Hi Frances & Carpenterson
Thank you for your posts all I get from them is there is no point in doing anything because it will not make any difference.
So we need to choose which group we wish to belong to those who are destroying the earth whom God will destroy

.  shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth
Or should we stand on the side of God and do what we can to look after the little bit of the planet we live in.

Love and Peace
Dave

The same argument carries on with the person who wants to live longer - by being a vegan - or living a better life...

Then the persons life is suddenly ended... [without his/her/ conscent...]..

Hi TH
But we are not talking about living longer we are talking about living for ever eternal life with God how wonderful is that.
So death should not be something to fear but  but something to look forward to one step nearer to living in a perfect world with God.

Love and Peace
Dave
