Who rules the earth?
« on: October 05, 2018, 03:59:10 PM »
Who rules the earth?   This subject came up when I was talking to a friend recently and I was wondering if you folks could shed a little light for me. My friend and I don't agree.

There are three possible answers to this question, and they are all right!

De jure, the earth belongs to God (Psalm 24:1,2), and He rules it. Nothing can happen without His permission (Jeremiah 27:5).

Now of course, God has delegated a great deal of His authority on the earth to the human race (Genesis 1:26; Psalm 115:16).

But because of our sin, the de facto ruler of the world is Satan, "the prince of this world' (John 14:30; I John 5:19). This is how Satan could offer "all the kingdoms of the world" to Jesus as a temptation, even though technically they belong to God (Matthew 4:8,9).

So the three possible answers are God, Man, and Satan. It all depends how you look at it - so you and your friend could both be right!
"My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness." (II Corinthians 12:9)

Thank you Deborah for a very comprehensive answer.

I thought Satan ruled the world, except for those of us who turned to God.

Sometimes I look at this world and think Satan is winning.
Do you think Satan will destroy this world and himself with it? Thereby creating hell.
Then God could begin again with the faithful.
Parts of Revelation do sound like nuclear war.

Hi Maggy
Thank you for your question not sure there are any easy answers what I am sure of is the ultimate control of all things is in Gods hands and the final outcome is a new heaven and earth.
Having said that at the present time it looks like satan has the upper hand and evil is rife everywhere but we are told in scripture that Christ has overcome satan although we do not see it at the present time.
what we need is patience not everything God dose happens over night or in the twinkling of an eye and nothing will happen until the full number of the gentiles have come in and how many that is nobody knows lets prey it will happen soon.
all we can do is keep the faith and pray "thy will be done on earth" when this prayer is answered we will know who rules the world God.

Love and Peace

Yes God gave man/humankind/ dominion over the earth - although satan stole/steals/ authority / see :  THE AUTHORITY ROBE

As as pointed out by @Deborah

When I might believe I am in control [I may also be used by God satan]

You only have to look at the genesis account [to see how Adam was in control of his creation [before he was birthed by God]  -or how Adam controlled satan/the serpent/ in the temptation [satan being stronger than man] not sure how much human will was involved here.

Good topic @Maggy

The average answer would be "it's my will and my life"

The answer should be "I RULE MY EARTH" - but it realloy depends Who I give my earthly body to and what"

It is a whole mixture - not distanced to natural life by "biblical context" [we and satan could not give a hoot about context from the past]

See: WHO RULES MY EARTH  - an old study of mine..

Aka - your will and others [where your will is affected by others]

And where you are not even aware - that you are being affected...

Whereas we are under an influence - as in UNDER AN INFLUENCE

On the other hand - see :  might chose to believe that God is Sovereign over you - see ; Sovereign Over Us - VIDEO

See : God is Sovereign and His Will is above all...

Where a heart is all out for God - [before the enemy causes an attack] and the person hides.. - people will usually hide in God in these times and become inaffective..

I have never met anyone who decided - when God had control and when they did or when satan did..

So following on... @Maggy

I once did a theme/run/ of studies on God's Will on earth and compared it to God's rule in our earthly vessels..

See : the run @ http://www.christianfaithchatrooms.co.uk/abba-father

For some reason I came up against a theologian - who argued the basic reasoning of "on earth" did not mean "in earth"

He argued  basic grammer and the keeping of context [of which - - God does not keep either]

The argument here is that although we pray  or are biblically taught to pray [Your Will be done on earth]

Whereas my parallel  was "We are from the earth and therefore it is about our earthen vessels doing God's Will on earth".

My distant memory remembers someone called ""Origen" and I think he posted on wiki or wikipedia !

Anyway ... this was at a time when the old social media began to take over and forum sites and chat sites began to become obsolete due to social media and the big guns [lbig money] taking over...

Not sure it was God's Will on earth - or on the internet !

You only have to look at the life of King David to see there were times when he was God's and at other times he was not...

Solomon [David's son] gives a better example of a man writing proverbs "inspired by God" while he walked away from God..

You see - to some people, their will on earth is God's Will On earth...
