Hi all,

I remember the public outcry about this film.  At the time, it caused a lot of controversy, what were your views both, at the time (if you?re an oldie like me), and now.  What in particular didn?t you like, or indeed did like?

Tara

Other than trailers and various clips, I never saw the film, nor wanted to. However there is little doubt that the writers were taking a pot shot at Christianity.

Compare the silence that has surrounded many decades of mockery against Christianity, with the massive outrage, violent street protests, and many bloody deaths over the tiniest insult against Islam.
Now dare to imagine what would have happened if a "Life of Brian" parody was done about Mohammed.

Parliament would be a smouldering ruin and the streets littered with countless bodies of the unclean, us lot.
Disturb us Lord, when we are too pleased with ourselves. When our dreams have come true because we dreamed too little. When we arrived safely because we sailed too close to the shore. Disturb us Lord, to dare more boldly. To venture on wider seas. Where storms will show your mastery; Where, losing sight of land, we shall find the stars. We ask you to push back the horizons of our hopes; And to push into the future, in strength, courage, hope and love.                     (SIR FRANCIS DRAKE 1577)

Thanks @francis drake ,

I just wondered if anyone was outraged at the time, but had now changed their attitude.  i thought it was funny at the time and still do. It did actually make me think about how easy it would have been to be mistaken for someone else, at that time.  I was raised on a diet of Dave Allen though - thanks Dad lol

Hi
As Les Dawson once said.
There are very few words in the prolific  English language that would help me describe  what I think so you'll have to settle for crap.

@francis drake , i agree with you re the film being about mohammed for example would have provoked something quite different, to the minor rumblings it received.  Ask Salman Rushdie!

I do think though we all need to chill a bit, it seems to me , everyone, in general, these days are too sensitive.   I found it interesting at the time, no complaints were made with regards to the portrayal of Pilate or the romans.

For years i?ve wondered why people were so offended by it.

I agree we need to chill, but if I am correct, you are speaking as a non Christian?

Speaking as a Christian, if the scripture message is of God, and anywhere near correct, then this country at one time did have good foundations.

The constant attack on those once Godly foundations has wreaked havoc on our culture and opened the door to vast quantities of very evil stuff.

I am the first to agree that the church as an institution has proved to be well past its sell by date, and fully deserving of mockery. But there is something far more sinister about what has happened to eradicate our Christian foundations.

Successive governments have run to protect every other religion, whilst at the same time done everything it can to undermine Christianity.
