Hi Frances
But the spirit of Christ was not given until Pentecost although it existed it was not given in the same way as it was given to the apostles.
The Spirit of Christ was most certainly given and manifested in the OT. The Patriarchs and prophets demonstrated far more Spirit empowered miracles than the Apostles ever did, it was just more widely spread as per the prophecy that Peter quoted.

The spirit of Christ is the same yesterday today and forever!,
Quote
yes God used the spirit to speak through certain people but I don't think the had it as a permanent indwelling what Rahab faith was in what she had seen and told by the spies she believed in the God of heaven and Earth which is God the father.
You are mixing two different things Dave.
1). Being born from above by the Spirit of God has always been a necessity from Adam onwards. When Jesus spoke to Nicodemus about the subject in Jn3, it would have been a ridiculous teaching if actually being born again by the Spirit was an impossibility for another three years!

2). Being filled with the Holy Spirit and Power, as at Pentecost, is an event which is separate to new birth.

Thus the OT believers were all born again by the Spirit, but some of them were additionally filled with the Spirit. This subsequent infilling was given for prophecy and miracles, or like Bazalel to build the Tabernacle.

Disturb us Lord, when we are too pleased with ourselves. When our dreams have come true because we dreamed too little. When we arrived safely because we sailed too close to the shore. Disturb us Lord, to dare more boldly. To venture on wider seas. Where storms will show your mastery; Where, losing sight of land, we shall find the stars. We ask you to push back the horizons of our hopes; And to push into the future, in strength, courage, hope and love.                     (SIR FRANCIS DRAKE 1577)

Hi Frances
Thank you for your reply but I am not convinced yes the Holy Spirit existed before Pentecost but it was not given to those in th OT  in the way it was given at Pentecost.

.  Num 24:2 And Balaam lifted up his eyes, and he saw Israel abiding in his tents according to their tribes; and the spirit of God came upon him

Did Balaam receive the Spirit he was not an Israelite and an unbeliever but God used him to bless Israel through the Spirit and I don't believe he retains the Spirit after.
In most cases in the OT the phrase came upon is used and I believe it means it came upon them for God to do his work through all those wonderful saints of the OT.
How about Moses he does not seam to have received the Spirit God spoke th him directly and Moses passed it on to the Israelites you say about the miracles these were done by  God through the people God chose to do them.

Love and Peace
Dave
