Dave,
the easy way out of offending God is an option, but it is not a realistic one.
Jesus used plenty of illistrations that showed that hell wasnot a place of sleep, but a place of torment.

John, just in case you noted something, I ticked the like button at the bottom of your post. Out of curiosity I then ticked it again, 20 times. I don't think its supposed to work like that.

Disturb us Lord, when we are too pleased with ourselves. When our dreams have come true because we dreamed too little. When we arrived safely because we sailed too close to the shore. Disturb us Lord, to dare more boldly. To venture on wider seas. Where storms will show your mastery; Where, losing sight of land, we shall find the stars. To be judged by God must never be underestimated, in whatever eternal death is afterwards
A debate exists over Gehenna.. It was the place where bodys were disposed of and "consumed" by worms that always had enough food to live on and there were non ceasing fire. That means there were no remains.
Jesus said fear God who can destroy both body and soul in hell. Does that mean the soul remains in consciousness or is eaten up?
Plus the bible is full of those anologys of consume and perish.
Are they eternally dead, or in the eternal process of dying?
I wouldn't want to say but know both opinions.

Hi John
Thank you for your post you said.

Dave,
the easy way out of offending God is an option, but it is not a realistic one.
Jesus used plenty of illistrations that showed that hell wasnot a place of sleep, but a place of torment.

Joh_11:11  These things said he: and after that he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep.
Joh_11:12  Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well.
Joh_11:13  Howbeit Jesus spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep.

from the above and the mouth of our Lord it is 100% certain that death is the same as sleep and there are numerous other scriptures which say exactly the same which means that we all sleep in the grave until the resurrection then those who belong to Christ are raised to eternal life and the rest to judgement.

now judgement is a two way street one can be found guilty or not guilty what will happen to all those who have never heard of Jesus or God how will they be judged I think we can leave that to the righteous judge.

Then we have those who will be tormented day and night with fire and brimstone who are they scripture gives us the answer to that.

Rev 14:9  And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand,
Rev 14:10  The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:

The only ones who are tormented are those who worship the beast and that dose not mean all unbelievers unbelievers usually dont worship anything

so what dose the word Hell mean it seams it can have different meanings in the OT it seams to be.

שְׁאֹל שְׁאוֹל
she'ôl    she'ôl
sheh-ole', sheh-ole'
From H7592; hades or the world of the dead (as if a subterranian retreat), including its accessories and inmates: - grave, hell, pit.
Total KJV occurrences: 65

Don't seam to be to frightening jest the place of the dead (where they Sleep )

In the NT it seams to have an entirely different meaning.

G1067

γέεννα
geenna
gheh'-en-nah
Of Hebrew origin ([H1516] and [H2011]); valley of (the son of) Hinnom; gehenna (or Ge-Hinnom), a valley of Jerusalem, used (figuratively) as a name for the place (or state) of everlasting punishment: - hell.
Total KJV occurrences: 12

This was a place outside of Jerusalem where they burned all there rubbish it also represented the place of everlasting punishment and as we saw befor this was reserved for those who worshiped the beast.

then we have one more meaning in revelations.

 G86

ᾅδης
hadēs
hah'-dace
From G1 (as a negative particle) and G1492; properly unseen, that is, “Hades” or the place (state) of departed souls: - grave, hell.
Total KJV occurrences: 11

Again depicting the grave then there this from revelations.

Rev_20:13  And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
Rev_20:14  And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

So what ever Death and Hell are they died in in the lake of fire so the ceased to exist and we should never forget.

Deu_4:24  For the LORD thy God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God.

Dave,
rev14:9 A third angel followed them and said in a loud voice: ?If anyone worships the beast and its image and receives its mark on their forehead or on their hand, 10 they, too, will drink the wine of God?s fury, which has been poured full strength into the cup of his wrath. They will be tormented with burning sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and of the Lamb. 11 And the smoke of their torment will rise for ever and ever. There will be no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and its image, or for anyone who receives the mark of its name.?

There are two types of people in all of creation.
Those who serve God and those who don't.

Any one who is not a Christian is serving the devil and is marked by him.

As the verse say:- Those who have not sought to serve Jesus will be tormented and the smoke of their torment will rise for ever.

What about those who have never heard? A the bible says, they are without excuse, creation tells them there is a creator and that they should sought him.

The smoke of their torment will rise forever.

How can there be smoke?

Hi John
Thank you for your reply are you saying all unbelievers will be tormented in eternity in that case all unbelievers will inherit eternal life.
If you read the scripture you have posted you will see that those who will be tormented are those who worship the beast and his image to worship something you must believe it exists most people today don't believe in God of the devil so how can they worship either .
I'm more inclined to think that those who will be tormented for eternity are spiritual beings the devils angels and the angles kept in chains in the time of the flood.
As for those who have not heard yes one can look at the world around us and say someone must have created all this it must be a God but where do they go from there now about all those who lived thousands of years ago now we're the supposed to seek the God of the bible and Jesus Christ it was not possible.

Love and Peace
