I note you were keen to state the wrongs of an atheist from my paragraphs but not able to offer me any advice as I asked regarding something bible wise to study or read or offer me any helpful words on my keenness to be a better Christian. And do you find your church is a place of self righteous conservatives? people that ask how your week has been but just want to hear you reply ?very good thank you? no matter what. Yes it is frustrating I want to grow as a Christian and the one group of people I find so negative are Christians. Give me some hope John?

Hi @Mike Amy ,

I too have a problem with the bible.  Too many additions, too much controversy over who really wrote what and why.  If this ever was Gods word, then man has interfered so much it?s devalued the scriptures, but that?s my own very personal opinion, and despite this i still read bits from time to time.   I also think that if God is the only reason we have morals, the world is indeed in trouble.  Why do atheists get such a hard time, i don?t understand that at all, where i live, affinity to a religion is something like 23%, church attendance 11%, so maybe that?s why i have no negative experience re atheists.

Hi Mike
You ask for something to read problem is there is so much hard to know where to start I like the book of Hebrews.

I did a Google and came up with this site.

http://www.accordingtothescriptures.org/prophecy/353prophecies.html

It's about prophecy concerning Christ many of which he has fulfilled the question we need to ask is how could those who wrote them know hundreds of years in advance what Christ would do.

You want advice on what book of the bible to read. Mike as I don't know what books you've read it is difficult to suggest your next book.

So I'll suggest something different. read two ch of the OT I from psalms and 1 from the NT every day and you'll read through the bible in a year. Start at Genesis psalm1 and Matthew.

It is a tough discipline that gives one an over sight of the bible and the history, stories etc in it.

If you want to make it more relevent keep a record of what you read, of any thing that struck you and why in the passage. End with a note about what it caused you to pray about.

Can you actually prove any of the above I think you may have bean reading to many books by academics who's only agender is to make a name for them selves there are hundreds of books written about the bible but the bible still stands alone as the word of God.

Would the God of creation allow mere men to interfere with his word I don't think so the bible was not written for academics but ordinary people to understand with the help of the Holy Spirit Christ preached to the poor and uneducated of his day it was the educated scribes and Pharisees who did not understand what he was saying and its the same to day academics are dissecting every jot and tittle of scripture and there is absolutely no need and has no value in instructing us in the word of God.

Hi @davetaff ,

Thank you for your reply.  I don?t know why i?m getting such a hostile reaction on here.  So according to you, Ive wasted a whole life reading my bible, but i am an academic, so it?s not actually meant for me?  I?ve read too many books??  Really?  It?s my job, and my hobby, reading, studying.  I didn?t realise I was not worthy of Gods love, nor it seems basic civility because of it.

Apologies indeed for using more than one brain cell!

Hi Tara

Dave isn't an intellectual himself (nothing wrong with that), so he appears to be a bit dismissive of those of us who are more learned. That's just the way he writes.

I hope it's OK to read lots of books about the Bible, as well as the Bible itself, because I have two bookcases full of them!

Hi Tara you have my unreserved apologies I never meant my post to be a personal attack on anyone I myself have read many books by many different authors and found they generally all say different things and I found it very confusing in the end I said to myself what dose the bible say to me personally.
So I put all the other books and web sites to one side took out my bible and started to read and have not stopped reading it and am always finding new things but what I say is how the bible speaks to me and not as others tell me what I should believe.

I believe the bible is Gods word and man cannot improve on it I also believe what ever we say concerning the scriptures has to be backed by the scriptures.

I am truly sorry if I have offended you please forgive me.

Love and Peace

Dave
