The millenium
« on: May 14, 2018, 02:36:47 PM »
Hi
The millennium this topic has popped up a few times on different threads I thought it might be interesting to take a look at it.

Deborah sent this message on the Hebrews thread I hope she don't mind me posting it here.

Quote
. Dose the new covenant include the millenium.
That depends on what you believe about the millennium! Personally, I believe that the millennium is now; it's the age when Christ reigns in heaven and we are (spiritually) seated with Him in the heavenly places. So I would say that the new covenant is the millennium. But lots of Christians would disagree with me

So what does the scriptures say concerning the millenium.

We can begin with.

.  Rev 20:2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, View more

Rev 20:3 And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season. View more

Rev 20:4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. View more

Rev 20:5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. View more

Rev 20:6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years. View more

Rev 20:7 And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison

The first thing we see is the devil locked away for a 1000 years dose this mean that there will be no evil in the world.
But this is not the end of him he will be released after a 1000 years for a short time why ?

Next we see our Lord Jesus take up his position as king of kings and all those who belong to him his bride the church and they will reign for a 1000 years the question is who will they reign over and why.

Our hope and prayer is to be part of the first resurrection

I think the following verses also have a berring on the subject of the millennium.

.  sa 2:9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel. View more

Rev 2:27 And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father. View more

Rev 12:5 And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne. View more

Rev 19:15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God

I think I'll leave it there for now see what others think.

Love and Peace
Dave

Post, Pre, A millenial are all different interprtations of large chunks of the bible.
I start and finish with a simple fact.

Jesus is coming again and that is all that matters.

Hi John
That Christ is coming is not in question is it the question is what will he be doing for a 1000 years.
What does "he will rule with a rod of iron" who will he rule over and why, what will be the part of believers in all this.
Don't you think these questions are interesting.

Scripture states that Satan will be bound for a thousand years, and then.-
Rev20v5The rest of the dead did not come back to life until the thousand years were complete. This is the first resurrection. 6Blessed and holy are those who share in the first resurrection! The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and will reign with Him for a thousand years. 7When the thousand years are complete, Satan will be released from his prison,?

Thus we see the believers reigning with Christ for 1000 years. But who are we reigning over? It makes no sense that we reign over other believers, as they/we collectively have been promised that same status of reigning with Christ.

Returning to the verses preceding the above we see the answer.-

Rev20v1And I saw an angel descending out of heaven, holding in his hand the key of the Abyss, and a great chain. 2And he seized the dragon, the ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years. 3And he cast him into the Abyss, and shut and sealed it over him, so that he should not deceive the nations any longer, until the thousand years were completed. After these things it is necessary for him to be released for a little time.

So Satan is bound so that he can deceive the nations no more. That indicates the nations of the world shall continue after the resurrection and the return of Christ in glory. Christ will reign over the nations and we with him. Those nations will, like today, be a mixture of Godly people and ungodly people, sheep and goat nations.

The interesting thing is that rebellion will be their freewill choice, there being be no Satan to deceive them. They will live and die regenerate or not. But after 1000 years, Satan will be released and nations will make a choice to fight under Satan's flag or to seek after the Lord.
Disturb us Lord, when we are too pleased with ourselves. When our dreams have come true because we dreamed too little. When we arrived safely because we sailed too close to the shore. Disturb us Lord, to dare more boldly. To venture on wider seas. Where storms will show your mastery; Where, losing sight of land, we shall find the stars. We ask you to push back the horizons of our hopes; And to push into the future, in strength, courage, hope and love.                     (SIR FRANCIS DRAKE 1577)

Hehe Dave, you and me agreeing?  old: I must have eaten something a bit odd t'other day!

Yes, look forward to it, but I suspect there are many things over the horizon that need to happen first before the Millennium comes.

Hi Frances
I think I had better write something controversial to keep you on your toes.
I believe the millennium is the last day of this creation which started with Noah.
The days are 1000 years long the millennium is the last day it's also the Father's Sabbath rest because he has handed all things over to the Son to finish the creation He has put all things under his feet.
