Hi John
Well what does this mean.

.    14  For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:

15  But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses

Love and Peace

Dave,
We have to be willing and ready to forgive, but nowhere is forgiveness unconditional.
God only forgives those who repent, yet you are saying we should do what God doesn't do, forgieve those who are not sorry for the wrongs they have done us.

Which is what we should do, but like God forgiveness is only given when the offender repents.

Hi John
Thanks for your reply but where in the scriptures does it say we have to repent first God offered us forgiveness before we repented
Jesus said on the cross.

.Luk 23:34 Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots
This Luk 23:34 Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots those  who nailed him to the cross did not repent first but Christ asked the father to forgive them.

Where does it say that God forgives without repentance?

Peter at penticost challenged those who heard him to Repent and be baptised..

Jesus when talking about our atitude to God told of a sinner who prayed God be merciful to me a sinner compared to the selfrightous pharases who praised himself to God.

Jesus on the cross is not forgiving his murders, but praying to his father that he might forgive them.

Hi John
Thank you for your reply   it was God who first offered forgiveness through Christ it was God who took the first step and we should do the same turn the other cheek comes to mind.

. Rom 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us

Quote
.   Peter at penticost challenged those who heard him to Repent and be baptised

The word repent only means change your mind all Peter is saying is change your mind and accept the gospel then get baptised when we get baptised we die  and our sins die with us and we are reborn into the body of Christ.

Do you think the Father would deny anything Christ asked of him and it's only the father who forgives sins.

Dave,
It is always God who makes the first move. No one of their own choice ever moves towards God.
If we are copying God then yes we can take the first step towards a person who has hurt us, but like God we are waiting for them to respond positively by saying sorry.

Yes repentance means to change your mind. Change your mind about what?
John the baptist preached about repentance from sin and of showing you've changed by the life style.
Peter preached at penticost about repenting from killing Jesus which inview of Jesus's teaching also means changing how one views sin.

God the Father has among many characteristics that of being perfectly just. Any action he took about Jesus's murders would be in acordance with his perfect justice, mercy, love and grace. Meaning if he condemned them to hell that would have beed the right decesion, if they repented and accepted Jesus's offer of salvation, then that would be perfectly right.
