Jesus Bar Abbas

Hi all,

What is your take on the Jesus Bar abbas (Barabbas) and Jesus (Christ) son of god situation?

Both appeared before Pilate, and Pilate asked the crowd which one to be released. The Crowd said Barrabas.

Barrabas( Bar Abbas) translates as Son of the father.

So in front of Pilate we have 2 Jesus' son of the father.

Some say it is a parable but I am not convinced.

Some atheists say this is how Jesus Christ was not resurrected and released mistakenly.

The passage I am referring to is Matthew 27

15 Now it was the governor?s custom at the festival to release a prisoner chosen by the crowd. 16 At that time they had a well-known prisoner whose name was Jesus Barabbas. 17 So when the crowd had gathered, Pilate asked them, ?Which one do you want me to release to you: Jesus Barabbas, or Jesus who is called the Messiah?? 18 For he knew it was out of self-interest that they had handed Jesus over to him.

19 While Pilate was sitting on the judge?s seat, his wife sent him this message: ?Don?t have anything to do with that innocent man, for I have suffered a great deal today in a dream because of him.?

20 But the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowd to ask for Barabbas and to have Jesus executed.

21 ?Which of the two do you want me to release to you?? asked the governor.

?Barabbas,? they answered.

22 ?What shall I do, then, with Jesus who is called the Messiah?? Pilate asked.

They all answered, ?Crucify him!?

23 ?Why? What crime has he committed?? asked Pilate.

But they shouted all the louder, ?Crucify him!?

24 When Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere, but that instead an uproar was starting, he took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd. ?I am innocent of this man?s blood,? he said. ?It is your responsibility!?

How did the disciples mistake Jesus for Barabbas, either on the cross or when he was 'resurrected'?

The 'Jesus' on the cross spoke to them and did not curse the romans. If the real Jesus died, how did the 'other' Jesus convince the disciples that it was he?

They had spent three years with a man who's teaching was revolutionary, could any other man mimic Jesuis and his teaching.
This applies to dying like him as well as living like him.

This simple examination shows what nonsence this idea is.
If in discussion about it just keep asking for evidence that it happened and remind them that the simplist, is often the most likely way something happened.

Hi Kingfisher
At first I was not going to answer but then I thought there mite be people out there who may believe this rubbish.

First of the Roman soldiers would have to mix up two prisoners and put the crown of thorns on the wrong man which would be at arms length very unlikely.

The we have all the eyewitness accounts of the crucifixion are we to believe all these people got it wrong or were not telling the truth.

Then there is the eyewitness accounts of the resurrection are these all Lie's St Paul a persecutor of the church met the risen Lord on the way to Damascus all thee people died and suffered preaching this gospel.

Nobody dies for what they no to be a lie.
