So hard to believe in anything any more
« on: January 12, 2018, 03:09:33 PM »
At the moment I'm finding it so hard to believe in myself, things getting better or anyone being there for me.

For many years I've struggled with loneliness, anxiety and financial problems. I've not had nearly such a good career as I could have done after my degree. My latest job's probation has been extended due to performance issues and the only way I could make good money - if I got into management - doesn't seem so likely now.

The week off from work has fallen really flat with me not too little money to go anywhere and too much time for obsessive thinking about past and present issues. These are so longstanding it's hard to feel they'll ever be resolved or that I can ever have the faith other people at my church do. Just feel everyone surpasses me in every aspect of my life.

Welcome sajamor,
I am sorry that you find life difficult and that you strugle with loneliness and anxiety.
Have you discussed your anxiety with anyone?

Issues like anxiety, depression etc do not just get better or go away. They need treatment, so please see your doctor.
The church is a good place to meet people and to start making friends. If you are anxious and unsure it does take longer to make contact with people.
Do persiver, try joining any home bible study groups or a work night if your church has them.

Rather than think obssevily about your problems, start a course of study. Use your spare time to investigate the historical claims of Christrianity.

You need a trainset.. Try 7mm narrow gauge as it keeps the mind happy making things, and it is a good budget way into the hobby. You dont need to spend a fortune like some do.
Some dont see how trains can keep people happy but they dont have trains!
Another thing that is fun is a bicycle! Those are fun.

Hello @sajamor,

You are finding it hard: -

- To believe in yourself?
- To believe that things will get better?
- To believe that there is anyone, 'out there' for you?

I remember a young friend, newly qualified, who had just moved into a place of her own, having the same feelings: and a mutual older friend suggested inviting newly made acquaintances, who appeared to share mutual interests, to come to her home for a coffee, or a meal, so that acquaintanceship would have the chance to grow into friendship or even something more.  She did just that, and eventually married and had a son. :)

We need to be proactive, and take measures to make friends, and change our circumstances, if we are able.

Don't be discouraged, work hard, show yourself to be willing to go the extra mile. Smile, and show yourself to be friendly. Seek financial advice,  and practice thrift. Look for activities which bring you into contact with others, by volunteering, or getting involved with local fellowship groups.  Show yourself willing and able, and be a friend.

Don't look inward, don't compare yourself with others, read God's Word, and start making a practice of praising God in all things.  Trust God, and tell Him of your hopes and fears. Keep your mind on positive things, and actively allow God to strengthen your faith, by believing what He says in His Word.

Seek activities which cost little, but which make you feel good, such as physical exercise.  Join a walking group perhaps, or help the homeless.  Help those with reading problems etc.,  :)

God will not leave you comfortless.
He loves you dearly.
In Christ Jesus.

It can be, I agree, @John.

It can also be demoralising and negative sometimes if the ones taking part are antagonistic towards one another.

However, it can be worthwhile: if responding to a thread leads to an increase in Bible study and prayerful personal research which results in worship and praise to God: also to mutual edification for those taking part, and for those simply reading along.  :)

God bless you, @sajamor,

Paul said:-

'Therefore, my brethren dearly beloved and longed for,
my joy and crown,
so stand fast in the Lord, my dearly beloved.'

(Php 4:1)

'Rejoice in the Lord alway:
.. and again I say, Rejoice.
Let your moderation be known unto all men.
.. The Lord is at hand.
Be careful for nothing;
.. but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving
.... let your requests be made known unto God.
And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding,
.. shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Finally, brethren, -
.. whatsoever things are true,
.... whatsoever things are honest,
...... whatsoever things are just,
........ whatsoever things are pure,
.......... whatsoever things are lovely,
............ whatsoever things are of good report;
if there be any virtue,
.. and if there be any praise,
.... think on these things.
Those things, -
.. which ye have both learned,
.... and received,
...... and heard,
........ and seen in me, do:
.......... and the God of peace shall be with you.'

(Php 4:4-9)

* The believers to whom Paul wrote, were suffering for their faith, from persecution not only from Rome, but from their own countrymen, they were being tortured and killed in the most appalling ways.  Yet Paul could tell them to 'rejoice in all things'! Even though he too, wrote from a Roman prison. For, they looked for the recompense of reward for their faithfulness,, which they would receive from God in resurrection life.

* How much more should we be rejoicing in all things, when the' all things' we endure is nothing compared to what they have endured.

Praise God!

For His Mercy and His Grace.
In Christ Jesus

When doing  house groups after a long days work I woud often sing  "rejoice in the Lord always ad again I say rejoiceeee"

This would make me ready for house group   :D

It was somethimg I learnt from my mentor

Aa I could not lead a a house goup saying " O bore - I am boredddd"

I had to lead with the positive attitude even though I may not have been positive - so I would sing that song again and again .

Rejoice in the Lord always and aagin I say reoiceeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

It enabled me to enter the house group with the right attitude   :D
